7.5 million kids are about to lose critical support — unless we stop it.
President Trump’s administration just gutted the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) — the federal office that enforces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and protects 7.5 million students with disabilities.
Almost the entire OSERS staff has been laid off. Oversight is gone. Guidance to states has stopped. Families are being left to fight for their children’s rights on their own.
This isn’t about bureaucracy — it’s about justice. For decades, parents and advocates fought to ensure that children with disabilities have access to a fair education. Now, that promise is being dismantled. If Congress doesn’t intervene, states will be free to cut corners, and no one in Washington will be watching.
We’re calling on Congress to fully restore OSERS funding, on Education Secretary Linda McMahon to halt the layoffs and rehire staff, and on congressional leaders to hold emergency oversight hearings by November 15, 2025.
