Block Trump’s Election-Denying Wall Street Pick for Intelligence Chief

Donald Trump wants to hand America’s intelligence agencies to a Wall Street insider, election denier, and loyalist. The Senate must reject him.

Jay Clayton should not be confirmed as director of national intelligence. He lacks real intelligence experience. What he does have is a long record of advancing the interests of Trump, Wall Street, and the billionaire class.

As Trump’s SEC chair, Clayton worked against regulations designed to protect investors and everyday people. He came out of the corporate world, governed like a Wall Street ally, and made clear whose interests came first.

Trump later installed him as a federal prosecutor despite Clayton having no prosecutorial experience. In that role, Clayton echoed false claims about California’s recent primary election, amplifying Trump’s attacks on democracy instead of standing up for the truth.

The director of national intelligence is responsible for helping protect the country from foreign threats, cyberattacks, terrorism, and election interference. That role demands experience, independence, and sound judgment.

Clayton has shown none of that. If confirmed, he would be expected to give the president honest, difficult assessments. But his record offers little reason to believe he would challenge Trump when national security, democracy, or the public interest are at stake.

Trump already withdrew Bill Pulte’s nomination after overwhelming backlash. With enough public pressure, we can push him to withdraw Clayton too — and demand a qualified intelligence leader who will protect the country instead of serving Trump’s political agenda.

America’s intelligence agencies exist to protect the public — not to serve Trump, Wall Street, or billionaires.

Thanks for all that you do,
