Comcast must reject political pressure and stand with NBC’s journalists
Because tens of thousands of you swarmed the Senate, FCC Chair Brendan Carr has agreed to testify before the Commerce Committee about the Jimmy Kimmel Live! episode and his pressure on ABC and its affiliates. Outlets including Semafor, Variety, and Reuters confirm the appearance.
Now another front demands attention. Donald Trump is again threatening to yank NBC’s broadcast license—part of a broader push to pressure networks—and recent coverage documents his calls to involve the FCC. Meanwhile, Carr’s own conduct toward ABC has drawn bipartisan rebukes, and Commissioner Anna Gomez warns the agency is being weaponized to intimidate broadcasters.
Comcast, NBC’s parent company, is squarely in the crosshairs. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts now faces a choice: stay quiet and enable political interference, or stand up for NBC’s independence and the First Amendment.
