Congressional leadership must condemn Trump’s racist attack on the Obamas.

Donald Trump posted a video depicting former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama as apes.

Not metaphorically. Not subtly. Literally.

As the Associated Press and CNN report, the video leaned into racist dehumanization and conspiracy content — and it’s being widely condemned as an ugly escalation from the President of the United States.

And instead of denouncing it, Forbes and Axios report that the White House defended the post and brushed off outrage.

This isn’t a one-off.

Trump has a long history of racist attacks against President Obama, including years of pushing the birther conspiracy theory. Now he’s using AI-driven propaganda to spread the same hate faster and wider.

Experts have long warned that racist dehumanization isn’t harmless. Research has shown that portraying Black people as animals increases public tolerance for discrimination and violence. 

Congressional leadership must speak out. Now. 

If Trump can post racist dehumanization from the presidency and face no consequences, he’ll keep escalating.
