Congress Chose ICE Over Food — Let’s Change That
Congress made a devastating choice — and we need to respond now.
In July, lawmakers passed the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” handing ICE $75 billion while slashing $186 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — the largest cut in the program’s 60-year history, as reported by Newsweek and detailed by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. That means millions of families could lose access to the food they rely on to survive.
SNAP currently helps over 40 million people afford groceries. Cutting it at this scale will increase hunger, push families deeper into poverty, and worsen health outcomes. The Center for American Progress warns that SNAP reductions are linked to serious health consequences, including preventable deaths.
There’s a better path forward.
Representative Shontel Brown and Representative Jim McGovern have introduced the Feeding Families Not Fear Act to rein in excessive ICE funding and restore critical food assistance.
Congress won’t act unless we make them.
Public pressure works — and lawmakers are paying attention right now as budget decisions continue to be made.
Add your name to tell Congress: Support the Feeding Families Not Fear Act. Stop taking food from families to fund ICE.
Families deserve food, dignity, and security — not political tradeoffs that leave them hungry.
Thanks,
Mary
