Congress Must Act Now to Reverse DOGE’s Damage
This week, Reuters reported that Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency — DOGE, run by Elon Musk — has already been disbanded, months early. But while the office is gone, the harm it caused to vital public programs is still unfolding, and Congress has only a narrow window to undo it.
Common Dreams explains that DOGE’s cuts and chaotic restructuring left agencies weakened and essential services disrupted. Fast Company and others have flagged serious concerns about DOGE mishandling sensitive Social Security and employment data — potentially putting millions at risk. And coverage from TechCrunch, TIME, and The Guardian shows how this so-called efficiency experiment collapsed without transparency or results.
Experts told Reuters that DOGE’s claimed savings still can’t be verified. Reporting from New York Magazine’s Intelligencer and The New Republic makes it clear: DOGE didn’t streamline government — it damaged it.
Congress must reverse that damage immediately. If lawmakers don’t act in the next few weeks, DOGE’s cuts and policies could become locked into upcoming budget cycles, making them far harder to undo. We can’t let this failed experiment leave permanent scars on programs millions rely on.
Add your name now to demand Congress investigate DOGE, restore funding and staff, and reverse the harm before it’s too late.
