Congress must stop Trump’s DOJ power grab
The Department of Justice is supposed to serve the people — not any president’s grudges. But last week’s indictment of former FBI Director James Comey is a flashing red warning: the White House is using the DOJ to go after perceived enemies.
If a president can weaponize prosecutors against a former FBI director, no critic is safe — not journalists, civil servants, or everyday citizens who speak up. That’s not how a democracy administers justice.
That’s why we are urging the House and Senate Judiciary Committees — and party leadership — to open immediate public hearings into the White House’s involvement in the Comey case, to strengthen statutory firewalls protecting prosecutorial independence and whistleblowers, to bar political interference in charging decisions, and to commit to real transparency and oversight.
The rule of law belongs to the people — not to any president’s revenge list. Raise your voice now and help force Congress to do its job.
Thanks,
Mary
