Congress Walks Away from ACA Subsidies — Millions Face Soaring Premiums
According to AP News, NPR, and The New York Times, the Senate rejected every bill that would have extended Affordable Care Act subsidies. That means more than 20 million people are now just weeks away from massive premium spikes when the enhanced tax credits expire on December 31st.
NBC News reports that premiums are expected to “skyrocket” because Congress failed to act, and Axios confirms that lawmakers walked away without a deal despite clear warnings from health policy experts.
If Congress doesn’t immediately reverse course, families, seniors, and small business owners will be hit with unaffordable increases — in many cases hundreds more per month — simply to keep essential coverage. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities warns that these hikes will be especially devastating for people already struggling to afford basics like rent, groceries, and medication.
This crisis is preventable. Congress chose not to prevent it.
We’re demanding that Congress reconvene and pass a clean extension of ACA subsidies before premiums jump on January 1. Millions of people cannot wait.
Protect affordable health care for everyone who depends on it.
Thanks,
Mary
