Democracy Depends on a Free Press — Not One Family’s Empire
Imagine turning on the news and realizing CNN and CBS are owned by the same company — controlled by the same billionaire family with political ties to Donald Trump. That’s precisely what’s about to happen if the Paramount–Warner Bros Discovery merger goes through.
This deal would hand two of America’s most powerful news networks — CNN and CBS — to one corporate empire led by the Ellison family, who’ve been supporters of Trump and his agenda. If they succeed, one family will control an enormous slice of what Americans see, hear, and believe — from entertainment to hard news.
That’s not media diversity. That’s media domination.
When fewer people control more of our news, we lose the checks and balances that keep power accountable. A merger like this means fewer perspectives, fewer independent voices, and more editorial decisions made in the interests of the powerful — not the public.
The FCC and Department of Justice have the power to stop this. They must reject this merger before it becomes a historic mistake that silences competition and corrodes democracy.
This isn’t just about Hollywood or streaming platforms — it’s about the very flow of information in America. If this merger goes through, a politically connected billionaire family could shape the headlines on both CNN and CBS. That’s too much power for anyone.
It’s time to take a stand.
Every voice counts. Let’s keep the news free, diverse, and accountable — not owned by one powerful family with a political agenda.
Thanks,
Mary
