Democrats Hold the Votes to Stop War Funding

After signing a $900 billion defense bill, Donald Trump is already preparing to ask Congress for billions more to fund his escalating war in Iran.

According to Roll Call, lawmakers in Washington are now discussing a massive supplemental defense package to pay for the conflict — potentially tens of billions of dollars — even though the war was launched without congressional authorization.

Politico reports that Republicans are already eyeing a large war funding package as part of broader legislation moving through Congress. If that proposal advances, Democratic votes could determine whether the funding passes.

At the same time, the debate inside the Democratic Party is intensifying. NBC News recently reported that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not committed to supporting additional funding tied to the war, highlighting the growing pressure on Democratic leaders as the issue moves toward a vote.

This moment matters.

Congress has the constitutional authority over war funding. If lawmakers approve billions more for the Pentagon, they won’t just pay for the conflict — they will help legitimize and expand it.

But Democrats have real leverage right now. In a closely divided Senate, any large funding package will likely require bipartisan support to pass.

That means public pressure could make the difference.
