DHS just elevated a 2020 election denier. Congress must step in before 2026.
The Department of Homeland Security just appointed Heather Honey — a prominent promoter of false 2020 election claims — to help oversee federal “election integrity.” That’s like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse. With the 2026 midterms fast approaching, Congress cannot allow election deniers to control the systems that keep our votes secure.
Honey’s record is clear. Her flawed analyses helped fuel Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election — including the debunked claim that Pennsylvania had “more votes than voters.” Now she’s been tapped as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Elections Integrity at DHS, a new role that experts warn could politicize federal election security. This isn’t “integrity” — it’s an invitation to interference.
Congress must act immediately by publicly demanding DHS rescind Honey’s appointment and any similar placements of 2020 deniers, and requiring strong guardrails — and, if necessary, Senate confirmation — for federal roles that touch election administration.
We trust election professionals — not conspiracy theorists — to safeguard our democracy. Don’t let extremists rig the rules ahead of 2026.
Add your name now and tell your members of Congress: keep election deniers out of election security.
Thanks,
Mary
