Facebook and Instagram shouldn’t platform ICE propaganda.

Meta is under fire — and this is a moment we can’t ignore.

Recent reporting by The Intercept exposed that ICE recruitment and “self-deportation” ads are running on Meta platforms while echoing language and imagery long associated with white nationalist and neo-Nazi propaganda. These aren’t neutral job postings. They’re fear-based messages designed to demonize immigrants and expand an agency with a documented record of abuse.

Members of Congress are now demanding action. Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Becca Balint publicly called on Meta to immediately end its ad partnerships with ICE, warning that the Department of Homeland Security has spent millions pushing ads that rely on racist narratives and extremist framing. Common Dreams reports that Meta and Google are facing growing scrutiny for continuing to profit from these campaigns.

Meta claims to ban hate and extremism. But allowing ICE to run ads that mirror white nationalist talking points directly contradicts those policies — and puts immigrant communities at risk.

We’ve seen this fight before. Public pressure forced Spotify to stop running ICE ads after artists, users, and organizers spoke out. That victory proved one thing clearly: corporations can choose not to amplify harm when people demand better.

Now it’s Meta’s turn.

Thanks,
Mary
