HHS Cut Child Health Funding. Kids Pay the Price.
In December, the Department of Health and Human Services abruptly cut tens of millions of dollars in grants to the American Academy of Pediatrics, putting critical child health programs at risk.
The decision has drawn national attention and legal action. CNN, Reuters, NBC News, and The Washington Post have all reported on the cuts and the growing backlash from pediatricians and public health experts.
The canceled funding supported efforts to reduce sudden infant deaths, improve teen and young adult health, prevent birth defects such as fetal alcohol syndrome, and identify autism early. These programs save lives, lower long-term health costs, and provide support to families before emergencies happen.
The American Academy of Pediatrics represents more than 67,000 pediatricians and has now sued the federal government to stop the damage. Experts warn that freezing this funding undermines evidence-based medicine and threatens children’s health nationwide.
Every day this decision stands, programs shut down, and families lose access to care that cannot be easily replaced.
HHS can still reverse course.
Children’s lives are on the line. Act now.
Thanks,
Mary
