According to reporting by the Boston Globe and USA Today, Education Secretary Linda McMahon has overseen mass layoffs at the Department of Education — wiping out critical civil rights staff, student aid specialists, and the teams responsible for protecting the most vulnerable children in our public schools.

Politico and The Hill confirm the same pattern: McMahon is fast-tracking the Trump administration’s plan to hollow out the Department from the inside. Entire functions are being shifted to agencies with zero experience overseeing education. Student-aid backlogs are already growing. Disability-support wait times could stretch into months. And the 2026 federal budget — which could lock in these cuts for a full year — is only weeks away.

This is spiraling fast. And Senator Elizabeth Warren is now leading the national call for McMahon to resign, telling USA Today and the Boston Globe that McMahon “has no business leading the Department of Education while she’s actively dismantling it.”

We need to amplify Warren’s call right now — before Congress moves on the budget. Once those numbers are finalized, the damage to public education could become permanent.
