Kristi Noem must be held accountable

The pressure is building in Washington — and Congress is running out of excuses.

Following a deadly ICE operation in Minneapolis earlier this month, multiple members of Congress are now calling for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. The killing has ignited outrage over DHS’s increasingly aggressive enforcement tactics and refusal to cooperate with local officials and congressional oversight.

Illinois Rep. Robin Kelly has announced plans to introduce articles of impeachment, citing abuse of power, obstruction, and violations of public trust. Axios and Politico report that Democratic leadership is openly discussing impeachment should Democrats control the House — and The Hill confirms House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not ruled it out.

This isn’t an isolated incident. A recent investigation from The Guardian documents a growing number of deaths connected to ICE operations nationwide. AP News has reported extensively on the Minneapolis shooting and the discrepancies between DHS statements and eyewitness accounts. Together, these reports paint a disturbing picture of an agency operating without accountability — and a secretary who has failed to protect human life.

Congress has a constitutional responsibility to act when executive officials abuse their power. Every day Kristi Noem remains in office is another day without answers, justice, or reform.

Thanks,
Mary
