Make Oil Giants Pay Us Back for War Profiteering

Big Oil is turning war into a payday — and families are getting stuck with the bill.

Last week, extra spending at the pump since the Iran War began surpassed the $80 billion mark, according to a tracker from Brown University. That is more than $80 billion pulled from families, workers, commuters, and small businesses while oil giants cash in.

ExxonMobil’s profits more than doubled to $14.5 billion, while Chevron’s earnings reportedly soared nearly 400% to $12 billion. This is war profiteering, and it has to stop.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative Ro Khanna are already pushing to tax Big Oil’s windfall profits and send the money back to people paying more at the pump. Now the rest of Congress must act.

The average family has already been hit with $285 more in car-fueling costs under Trump’s policies. That is money ripped out of people’s pockets just to get to work, take kids to school, run small businesses, and keep life moving.

When war drives prices higher, oil companies get richer. When families struggle, they shrug. Then executives and shareholders walk away with the windfall.

No one should get rich because conflict makes life more expensive for everyone else. And no family should be forced to subsidize oil company greed every time they fill a tank of gas.

Big Oil made families pay. Now Congress must make Big Oil pay them back.
