Our Votes, Not ICE Agents
Donald Trump’s allies are openly floating a chilling idea: sending ICE agents to polling places in the 2026 elections.
According to reporting from The Hill, CNN, and Democracy Docket, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche — Trump’s former personal lawyer — said immigration enforcement at polling locations is on the table. Border Czar Tom Homan has also refused to rule it out. Even former Trump advisor Steve Bannon suggested recent ICE deployments at airports could be a “test run” for Election Day.
Let’s be clear: noncitizen voting is extremely rare. The only real effect of sending ICE agents to polling places would be fear. It would intimidate immigrant communities, discourage eligible voters from showing up, and suppress turnout in communities of color.
This is how democracy gets undermined.
The Brennan Center for Justice has affirmed that federal forces are prohibited from being stationed at polling places in ways that could intimidate voters. Yet these statements from Trump-aligned officials signal a willingness to push those boundaries — or ignore them entirely.
That’s why we’re taking action now.
We’re calling on Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Department of Justice, and DHS to issue clear, binding guidance banning ICE from polling locations before the 2026 elections.
Thanks,
Mary
