Our Weather Service Is Under Attack
Trump and his billionaire allies are pushing to privatize the National Weather Service (NWS) and turn life-saving forecasts into a profit stream.
That means storm alerts, flood warnings, and hurricane forecasts could soon come with a price tag. Trump’s Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, has deep financial ties to weather tech firms—and he’s poised to cash in.
This is more than corruption. It’s deadly.
Millions of Americans rely on NWS alerts every day. If we let private companies take control, vulnerable communities will suffer most — and lives will be lost.
Meanwhile, former execs from AccuWeather and Panasonic Weather are being tapped to run the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The foxes are circling the henhouse.
We’re already seeing the impact: NWS is stretched thin from budget cuts and staff shortages. Privatizing it would completely gut the system. And no private company can replace the nationwide, 24/7 coverage the NWS provides.
We need Congress to act now:
→ Stop the privatization
→ Protect funding
→ Investigate conflicts of interest
Thanks,
Mary
