Stop a Military Takeover of Our Cities
President Trump hasn’t yet invoked the Insurrection Act — but he’s getting closer by the day. Reports from Reuters, ABC News, and Axios confirm that he’s weighing the use of the Act to deploy U.S. troops into Democratic-led cities like Chicago and Portland, even over the objections of governors.
Now, his threats are escalating further. The Guardian, AP News, and The New York Times report that Trump is calling for the arrest of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for resisting his orders. National Guard units from other states have already been directed toward Chicago under federal command, sparking lawsuits and public outrage.
These are not empty words. The administration is testing the limits of presidential power — and if the Insurrection Act is invoked, it could put military force directly into American communities, silencing dissent and eroding basic freedoms.
If Congress doesn’t act now, the President could use this power to suppress protests and silence dissent — bypassing both state authority and the Constitution.
We can stop this — but only if Congress feels the pressure. When thousands of Americans raise their voices, lawmakers are forced to act. We need a massive wave of public outrage to make it politically impossible for Congress to stand by.
Thanks,
Mary
