Stop ICE from Detaining Pregnant Women

New reporting is shedding light on a growing crisis: pregnant women in ICE detention are facing dangerous and inhumane conditions — and Congress has the power to stop it.

According to The 19th and NPR, pregnant detainees have been denied critical medical care, with some experiencing preventable complications and even miscarriages. Politico has reported that ICE is failing to consistently follow its own standards for pregnancy care.

The U.S. is increasing deportations of pregnant women despite these risks, and The New York Times has documented mounting pressure on federal officials to address these failures.

This is systemic neglect. Pregnant, postpartum, and nursing women are being subjected to malnutrition, isolation, and a lack of proper medical support while in federal custody.

Congress can, and must, step in. With key funding and oversight decisions happening now, public pressure can force lawmakers to act and end these dangerous detention practices.
