Stop ICE From Torturing Hunger-Striking Immigrants

The Guardian just exposed a brutal ICE practice hidden in court filings: forcing hunger-striking immigrants into invasive medical procedures against their will.

These are people refusing food because they say conditions inside ICE detention are unbearable. Instead of listening, ICE has reportedly pushed for feeding tubes, forced hydration, blood or urine collection, and involuntary medical monitoring.

Hunger strikes are desperate acts of protest. When abuse becomes so severe that detained people risk their own bodies to expose it, the government’s response should be oversight, transparency, and reform — not more abuse.

No one should be tortured into silence for protesting inhumane conditions. No one should lose the right to bodily autonomy because they are locked in an immigration jail.

This abuse was hidden in sealed or fast-moving court proceedings. Now it is public. If detainees are starving themselves to be heard, Congress should be asking what ICE is hiding.

But Congress will not act unless we force this scandal into the open.

Thanks for all that you do,
