Stop the President’s Dangerous Push for New Nuclear Tests

The United States is on the brink of a dangerous reversal in nuclear policy. According to The New York Times, President Trump has directed the Pentagon to prepare for a resumption of U.S. nuclear weapons testing — a move that would end more than three decades without an explosive nuclear test.

Reuters reports that the President ordered the Department of Defense to “immediately” begin preparations so the U.S. can test “on an equal basis” with Russia and China, a shift experts warn could destabilize global arms-control efforts and ignite a new nuclear arms race.

This alarming decision has sparked global concern. The Washington Post recently highlighted the emotional testimony of Koko Kondo, a Hiroshima survivor, who warned that resuming nuclear tests risks reopening the darkest chapters of human history. Her voice is a powerful reminder of the human cost of nuclear weapons — and why returning to testing is unacceptable.

For decades, the U.S. has benefited from bipartisan support for the nuclear testing moratorium, first established in 1992. Reopening this door threatens international stability, undermines nonproliferation norms, and signals to other nations that nuclear escalation is once again on the table.

Congress now has the power — and the responsibility — to stop this.

You can make a difference right now.

Thanks,
Mary
