Stop the “UNtaxed Act” and Protect Global Carbon-Reduction Efforts
Right now, House Republicans are pushing H.R. 5888 — the so-called “UNtaxed Act” — a bill that would sabotage global climate cooperation just when the world needs the U.S. to lead, not block progress.
This legislation would bar the U.S. from funding any United Nations body that implements global carbon-reduction tools — including coordinated carbon pricing — and would tie the U.S.’s hands in future climate negotiations. In short, it’s designed to stop the U.S. from participating in global efforts to reduce emissions.
The U.N. and other international bodies are already working on sector-wide measures to cut pollution. Climate advocates warn that the “UNtaxed Act” would undermine these efforts and weaken global climate action by forcing the U.S. to step back rather than lead. And because climate change is borderless, isolating ourselves doesn’t just harm the planet — it hurts frontline communities here at home who are already experiencing extreme heat, storms, and rising costs.
This bill is a direct threat to real climate progress — and we need to mobilize now.
Thanks,
Mary
