Stop Trump’s $1.4 Billion Military Occupation of D.C.

This week, the Pentagon announced the price tag for Donald Trump’s military occupation of Washington, D.C.: $1.4 billion to keep National Guard troops on the streets through 2029.

He’s still not finished using soldiers, streets, and taxpayer dollars to stage a political occupation of a city whose residents he does not respect.

The Pentagon has reportedly budgeted for thousands of National Guard troops to remain deployed in D.C. for years, turning what Trump called an emergency into a long-term show of force. Families, workers, students, seniors, and small business owners should not have to live under military patrols because Trump wants to look powerful.

This money should be going toward housing, healthcare, schools, transit, food assistance, violence interruption, mental health response, and real community safety. Instead, Trump wants to pour $1.4 billion into militarizing a city whose residents are already denied full voting representation in Congress.

D.C. does not need more troops. It needs respect, resources, and local control.

A president should not be able to use the National Guard to intimidate residents, override local leaders, or normalize a permanent military presence in an American city. D.C. residents are not props in Trump’s political theater. They are people who deserve democracy, dignity, and the freedom to govern their own community.

Congress must demand answers, restrict funding, and stop Trump from wasting billions on this occupation — but only if the public pressure is too loud to ignore.

Thanks for all that you do,
