Stop Trump’s Deportation-for-Profit Scheme
Trump’s mass deportation scheme is being sold as “law and order.” But ICE’s new detention rules expose what it really is: a profit machine that turns hate and fear into a payday for Trump’s wealthy allies.
ICE just released new detention standards that reportedly weaken protections for detained immigrants while making life easier for private prison contractors like GEO Group and CoreCivic. The changes eliminate pay requirements for detained workers, weaken language access, and could make it harder to move severely ill or disabled detainees to facilities that can actually care for them.
Trump is using fear of immigrants to justify a massive detention buildout — and private prison companies are lining up to cash in.
Private prison companies stand to make enormous sums from Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda. And now ICE is rewriting the rules in ways that could make detention cheaper, more dangerous, and more profitable.
Detained immigrants already face medical neglect, language barriers, retaliation, forced labor, and dangerous conditions. Weakening standards will only make those abuses easier to hide — and easier to monetize.
Congress must drag this scheme into the light by holding hearings, subpoenaing ICE’s communications with private prison contractors, cutting off abusive contracts, and forcing basic protections for people in government custody.
But the goal cannot stop at better policing of detention centers. Trump’s mass deportation scheme must end.
Thanks for all that you do,
