Stop Trump’s DOJ From Unmasking ICE Critics Online

Trump’s Justice Department is trying to unmask anonymous people online for criticizing ICE. That should terrify anyone who believes we still have the right to speak out against government abuse.

New reporting shows federal prosecutors are trying to force Reddit and X to hand over personal information tied to users who criticized ICE tactics online — including names, addresses, financial information, and other identifying data.

Criticizing ICE is not a crime. Posting anonymously about raids, detentions, deportations, and abuse is protected political speech. Trump’s DOJ has no business using criminal investigations to scare people into silence.

There is a real danger to all of us if the government can use secretive legal tools to expose, intimidate, and silence people who criticize federal agents.

No one is defending threats or doxxing. But “officer safety” cannot become a blank check for federal prosecutors to strip people of anonymity just because they oppose ICE. The First Amendment protects the right to criticize the government — especially when the government is abusing its power.

Congress must force DOJ and DHS to reveal how far this campaign goes and make it clear that anonymous political speech cannot be treated like a criminal conspiracy.

Thanks for all that you do,
