Tell Congress: Ban Gambling on War and Government Policy
A U.S. soldier used classified intelligence from a covert military operation to place bets on Polymarket — and walked away with more than $400,000 in winnings.
Sensitive military secrets were turned into cash — putting a mission and lives at risk.
Prosecutors say the soldier used inside knowledge of a mission targeting Venezuela’s president to bet on the outcome and cash in when it succeeded. A real military operation — with real risks and real people — became a personal payday.
Congress must use its power to act now. Lawmakers can prohibit betting on government actions, close loopholes, and keep war, policy, and national security out of prediction markets.
Gambling on war and public policy is already widespread. Hundreds of millions of dollars have poured into prediction markets, with massive bets placed on elections, conflicts, and major policy decisions. Entire markets now track war scenarios and government actions in real time.
The danger goes far beyond insiders. These markets give anyone with money a reason to try to influence outcomes. When people can bet on war, elections, or policy decisions, the incentive shifts from observation to interference.
That can mean pressure campaigns, disinformation, or even threats against elected officials, reporters, and civil servants — all to move the outcome and cash in.
Thanks,
