Tell Congress: Pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act now

This rarely happens in Washington: workers just won a huge breakthrough, and now Congress is on the clock.

After months of delay, a bipartisan discharge petition has finally reached 218 signatures to force a vote on the Protect America’s Workforce Act, the bill to undo Donald Trump’s executive order that stripped union rights from roughly one million federal workers across major agencies. AFGE and NFFE report that Reps. Mike Lawler and Nick LaLota cast the decisive final signatures, pushing the petition over the top.

Outlets from CNN and the Associated Press to The Guardian and Common Dreams have documented how Trump’s order gutted collective bargaining, destabilized unions, and threatened basic protections for workers at the Defense Department, the Veterans Affairs Department, and more. Maine Morning Star confirms what’s at stake now. This vote could finally restore bargaining rights for the people who process Social Security checks, care for veterans, and respond when disaster strikes.

But victory isn’t guaranteed. Politico has already reported how political games in both parties nearly derailed this effort once. The only way to keep it on track is massive, visible public pressure — especially on Speaker Mike Johnson, House leadership in both parties, and key swing-district members like Mike Lawler and Nick LaLota. They need to know the country is watching this vote and will remember where they stand.

Thanks,
Mary
