Tell Congress: Pass the War Powers Resolution and stop unauthorized U.S. hostilities toward Venezuela
Recent reporting from NPR, CBS News, and ABC News shows that the U.S. has escalated deadly military operations near Venezuela without congressional authorization. These include strikes that killed civilians at sea, with legal experts telling CBS that targeting shipwrecked survivors may violate U.S. and international law.
At the same time, NPR and ABC News report that President Trump is intensifying threats toward Venezuela’s airspace, while Al Jazeera warns the administration may be preparing for broader military action.
This is precisely the kind of unchecked use of force the War Powers Resolution was written to prevent.
Rep. Jim McGovern has now introduced a War Powers Resolution requiring the withdrawal of U.S. forces from hostilities toward Venezuela unless Congress explicitly authorizes them.
Congress must act immediately to stop the slide toward another unauthorized conflict.
Thanks,
Mary
