Tell Health Insurers: Stop Helping Trump Cancel Coverage

In a single round of Affordable Care Act coverage cancellations, the Trump administration terminated health insurance policies covering more than 760,000 Americans. Hundreds of thousands more could be next. And ten major insurance companies are under investigation for allegedly helping make it happen.

Senators Bernie Sanders, Ron Wyden, and 11 other Democrats are demanding answers from UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Centene, and seven other insurers over their role in Trump's massive Affordable Care Act coverage purge.

The insurers have until November 6 to explain their involvement in the cancellations. That's just days away—and with another wave of enrollment reviews already underway, these companies must face public pressure now to come clean and protect their customers before more people lose coverage.

Trump claims he's fighting fraud. But eligible Americans have been wrongly kicked off their plans, and major insurers are facing serious questions about why they cooperated with the crackdown without adequately protecting their customers.

According to the senators, insurers sent unexpected requests for sensitive personal information, sometimes including Social Security numbers. Customers who didn't respond were flagged, and federal officials terminated their coverage.

And the hypocrisy is staggering. When lawmakers asked insurers to warn customers about skyrocketing premiums, companies complained it was too expensive and complicated. But when Trump wanted help removing people from coverage, they sprang into action.

Some wrongly terminated customers have since regained coverage. But instead of ensuring the process protects eligible Americans, the administration is pressing ahead and insurers appear ready to repeat the process.

Another 419,000 enrollments are already under review. More families could lose access to their doctors, medications, and lifesaving treatment because of bureaucratic failures.

UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Centene, and the other insurers must help restore wrongfully canceled coverage, secure retroactive protection against medical bills, and demand proper notice and meaningful appeals before further terminations. They must also fully cooperate with the Senate investigation by November 6 and come clean about their role in Trump's crackdown.

These corporations collect billions in premiums and taxpayer-supported payments. They have a responsibility to stand up for the people whose healthcare depends on them.

Thanks for all that you do,
