Tell the White House: Stop Blacklisting Major Media Outlets
Donald Trump is once again punishing journalists who refuse to flatter him.
He just banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House because they tell the truth about his administration, and he can't stand it. Then he threatened to ban more outlets.
A free press requires fair access to people in power. We can't allow Trump to deny access to everyone who is willing to hold him accountable.
The White House is not Trump’s private club. It belongs to the public. Journalists are there to ask hard questions, expose misconduct, and report what officials would rather keep hidden.
That is why this moment matters. Trump and the White House Press Office control the policy and can reverse it immediately. Public pressure can make clear that using government access to punish critical coverage carries a political and reputational cost.
This is bigger than three outlets. If one president can blacklist journalists for coverage he dislikes, the next reporter asking an uncomfortable question could be next.
Trump should end this today and stop his attacks on the people that we trust to hold him accountable. And the White House Press Office must establish clear, viewpoint-neutral rules in place so no administration can weaponize press credentials against its critics.
Because a free press does not answer to the president. The president answers to the public.
Thanks for all that you do,
Matt from the Swarm
