The Epstein Files Are Still Hidden — One Month Past Deadline
The Department of Justice is now more than one month past its legal deadline to release all unclassified Epstein files — and the public is still being kept in the dark.
Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November, giving the DOJ 30 days to release every unclassified record tied to Jeffrey Epstein and his network. President Trump signed it into law, setting a clear deadline of December 19, 2025. According to NBC News, that deadline has passed with no full release.
As reported by The Guardian, the DOJ has released only a small portion of the material while more than two million documents remain withheld under vague claims of ongoing review. Politico reports that lawmakers from both parties are now questioning why the department has failed to comply with a direct order from Congress.
This delay has real consequences. Epstein’s crimes devastated survivors, and secrecy protected powerful people for years. CNN reports that advocates warn that continued withholding of records deepens mistrust and denies accountability. A recent CNN poll shows that most Americans believe the full truth about Epstein’s connections has still not been made public.
Congress acted because the public demanded transparency. Now Congress must enforce the law it passed.
Thanks,
Mary
