The world is watching as Trump escalates threats over Greenland.

Multiple major outlets — including The New York Times, The Guardian, NPR, NBC News, Al Jazeera, and The Hill — reported that President Trump is again pushing to take control of Greenland, refusing to rule out tariffs or even military force.

This isn’t a joke or a hypothetical. According to NPR, Trump allies have floated punitive tariffs on Denmark as soon as February 1, escalating pressure on a NATO ally to hand over a self-governing territory whose people have clearly said no. Denmark’s prime minister warned on NPR that a U.S. takeover attempt could spell the end of NATO itself.

Greenland’s government has rejected annexation outright. Protests have erupted across Greenland and Denmark, as NBC News reported, with citizens demanding that the U.S. respect their sovereignty. Even Republican senators, reported by The Hill, have publicly opposed the idea, calling it dangerous and destabilizing.

This is a constitutional crisis in the making. A president is asserting the power to threaten allies and seize foreign land without congressional approval. If Congress does not act now, this reckless rhetoric could turn into real-world harm.

Thanks,
Mary
