Todd Blanche’s Nomination Is Stalling. We Must Block It.

Todd Blanche’s nomination is in trouble. Now we need to block him for good.

The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed its vote after even Republican senators raised alarms about the Trump administration’s corrupt IRS settlement — including a proposed “Anti-Weaponization Fund” and language that could shield Trump and his family from future tax scrutiny.

That delay tells us something important: Blanche can be stopped.

Trump is trying to install his former personal lawyer as attorney general while his own Justice Department is tied up in a scandal over special treatment for Trump. Even Senate Republicans know this looks rotten. Now we have to make sure they don’t cave.

Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: “Stop stalling and vote no on Todd Blanche. Do not let Trump put his personal lawyer in charge of the Justice Department.”

This nomination is a test of whether the Justice Department belongs to the American people — or to Donald Trump.

Blanche defended Trump in court. Now Trump wants to hand him the power to oversee federal law enforcement. And he wants senators to look the other way while serious questions remain about whether Trump and his family are being protected from IRS scrutiny.

No president should get to turn the Justice Department into a personal legal shield. No Senate Republican should get credit for “asking questions” and then vote yes anyway.

If this nomination was bad enough to delay, it is bad enough to defeat. This delay is our chance to finish the job.
