Trump Is Testing the Limits of Presidential Power

For nearly 250 years, the United States has rejected the very idea of kings. Our democracy was founded on a simple principle: no one — not even the president — is above the law.

But Donald Trump is acting like a king.

From day one of his presidency, Trump has pushed presidential power to unimaginable limits — ignoring Congress, brushing aside the Supreme Court, and defying the will of the American people. According to reporting from Axios, Trump has expanded executive authority in ways not seen in modern American history, testing the limits of presidential power again and again.

Now, he’s gone even further.

Without Congressional approval, Trump has launched the United States into a new war in Iran — a massive military campaign that risks dragging our country into another devastating Middle East conflict.

At home, his administration has unleashed ICE agents into our communities — ripping families apart, detaining record numbers of immigrants and even U.S. citizens, and creating fear and chaos across the country.

This isn’t how democracy works.

Congress has a constitutional duty to check the president’s power — especially when it comes to war, civil liberties, and the rule of law. But too many members of Congress are standing by while Trump behaves as if he alone gets to decide the fate of our country.

That’s why we’re speaking out.

In America, we have no kings.

Not in the White House. Not in Congress. Not anywhere.

If our elected leaders won’t defend democracy, the American people will.

Thanks,
Mary
