Verizon Profits From Detention and Deportation
Verizon is profiting from a long-term partnership with the Department of Homeland Security, providing communications infrastructure to DHS agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Verizon itself has confirmed that this contract spans a decade and is worth up to $176 million, embedding the company directly in immigration enforcement operations, according to Verizon’s own press releases and industry reporting from Mobile World Live.
At the same time, the immigration detention system remains deeply abusive and deadly. Reporting by the Guardian has documented physical and sexual abuse of detained people, including pregnant women and children, inside immigration detention facilities. Reuters has reported that multiple migrants have already died in ICE custody in the first days of 2026 alone, following a year in which deaths in detention reached alarming levels.
Rather than addressing these conditions, DHS has moved to restrict congressional oversight. Members of Congress have warned that DHS is blocking or limiting access to detention facilities, a move documented in public letters and covered by major outlets, including the Guardian and Reuters.
Verizon cannot claim social responsibility while supporting agencies linked to abuse, deaths in custody, and the suppression of oversight. We need your voice now.
Public pressure works when we act together – please take action today.
Thanks,
Mary
