Viewers should decide what to watch — not Sinclair
ABC has reinstated Jimmy Kimmel Live! — but Sinclair Broadcast Group says it will keep preempting the show on its 39 ABC affiliates and replace it with “news programming.” That’s censorship by a powerful local TV owner, and it’s not okay.
Sinclair has even publicly set conditions for allowing the show back: a direct apology to Charlie Kirk’s family and a “meaningful donation” to Turning Point USA. That’s an ideological veto over a national program — and it’s unacceptable.
This matters because Sinclair controls a huge slice of the ABC footprint. When one company blocks a nationally scheduled program, millions of viewers lose their choice. Media watchdogs have also documented how Sinclair uses its local news platform to push coordinated right-wing talking points, which is exactly why political gatekeeping over entertainment programming is so dangerous.
We’re calling on Sinclair to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! in line with ABC’s national schedule, end these political conditions, and commit to viewpoint-neutral decisions that respect viewers.
Stations impacted include KOMO (Seattle), WJLA (D.C.), KATU (Portland), KDNL (St. Louis), and KTUL (Tulsa), among others.
Send a letter to tell Sinclair to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! on all Sinclair-owned ABC stations.
Thanks,
Mary
